Columbus High wins 15th annual wrestling championship

  • This was the closest margin since Shaw won the team title over Harris County in 1997.
  • “We had several wrestlers in finals that won with pins and those extra points made the difference,” Morgan said.
  • The Blue Devils also did their part winning all five of their final matches and two consolation matches.
  • Hardaway was 3-3 in finals while Smiths Station was 2-2.
  • There were also several repeat individual champions in the tournament including Harris County’s Joey DeNova.
  • He won his fourth straight city title, two with Columbus and two with Harris County while Columbus’ Chris Grier won his third.
  • “We had wrestled before and I felt confident going into the match,” Reynolds said after the win.

  • Refreshments are available during the shoot, and Westervelt Lodge’s fried chicken lunch will be served.
  • The annual event will be held in the track’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage.
  • Prints from artists Eddie LeRoy, the late Larry Chandler and several prints from former award winners of AWF’s annual Flora and Fauna art show will also be up for auction.
  • All proceeds from the event will benefit the Alabama Wildlife Federation.

  • The group, which meets each Wednesday at noon at Catfish Junction in Saraland, has as its officers Mike Sweet, president; Paul Stanley, president elect; Ben Purvis, vice president; Holly Shirley, treasurer and Stacy Lindsey, secretary.
  • Cecil McGuire, who heads the Chickasaw Kiwanis Club’s disc golf tournament each year, said that more than 100 players showed up to participate in the Jan.

  • Among those eager to express themselves on a recent Friday were Daniel Presnall, who wore a big blue hat with a red boa (to match his McDavid-Jones red shirt) and a trademark Superman S on top, and Hannah Merchant, whose cute little flapper hat trailed a long pink chiffon scarf.

  • Other senior activities coming up in Chickasaw include a monthly blood pressure check at the civic center Feb.
  • Laurent said the Woman’s Club won second prize in the Saraland Christmas parade, one of the biggest in the county.
  • The Woman’s Club of Citronelle meets Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
